An Artistic Narrative of the Yazidi People’s Difficult Journey
In her opening speech, the exhibition’s artist, Gülsüme Oğuz, drew attention to the great suffering experienced by the Yazidi people between 2014 and 2016, stating:
“We held the opening of our exhibition at Silopi 8 March Life Park. Together with the women of Silopi, we commemorated the Yazidi people who were our guests between 2014 and 2016. We remembered the selfless welcome they received during those years.”
Oğuz stated that the exhibition’s starting point was the period when the Yazidi people fled from ISIS persecution and sought refuge in Turkey via Silopi, emphasizing that during that time, the people in the refugee camps established in Silopi, Şırnak, Urfa, Mardin, Batman, and Diyarbakır demonstrated a great example of solidarity.
The artist expressed the exhibition’s purpose as follows:
“This exhibition is an effort to commemorate a great act of kindness. We want to show how powerful the results of solidarity and working together can be.”

Oğuz thanked Silopi Mayor Jiyan Ormanlı and Culture Affairs Director Evin Hasanoğlu for their support in making the exhibition happen, and announced that ceramics and oral sharing workshops will continue in the coming days.
The exhibition journey continues: Next stops are Diyarbakır and Istanbul.
Silopi Municipality invites all art lovers to visit this meaningful exhibition, which will remain open until November 18th, and announced that the next stops for the exhibition, which follows the migration route of the Yazidi people, will be Diyarbakır and Istanbul.
